At Sententia Vera, LLC, we take great pride in partnering with National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) each year, celebrating the nation’s largest civic holiday. Since 2012, NVRD has helped register over 5 million voters, and we anticipate that this year will see millions more stepping up, with Millennials and Gen Z leading the charge! We’re excited to share the story of how we marked this important day at The Hub.
A Space for Conversation & Action
This year, in addition to registering voters and offering crucial resources, we hosted an Open House, designed to create a space for restorative conversations among voters, nonprofit leaders, and candidates. Our aim was to spark meaningful discussions about the issues at the forefront of voters’ minds, whether at the local, state, or federal level, and to explore actionable ways to drive change.
To kick off these conversations, we posed three key questions on chart boards, inviting participants to share their thoughts and ideas using sticky notes:
-
- Local: What should be the top priority for our community?
- State: What is a major challenge facing our state legislature?
- Federal: What Texas issue do you believe is misunderstood by our federal leaders?
These questions acted as conversation starters, opening the door to discussions that flowed naturally into the many important, relatable issues our community cares about and hopes to address.
Your Voice Matters: Continue the Conversation
Understanding that these conversations shouldn’t end here, we created an online survey to gather even more input from our community. Your voice is vital in shaping this dialogue, and we invite you to add your thoughts to this ongoing restorative conversation. Click the link below to participate.
What is a Restorative Conversation?
Informed by Peter Block’s Community: The Structure of Belonging, I embrace the idea that community restoration starts with language. As a linguist, I deeply believe in the power of communication to heal and transform. A restorative conversation is about more than talking—it’s about changing narratives. It’s the idea that real change happens when we open ourselves up to new conversations with a diverse set of people, especially those we may not often speak with.
Take Action: Participate in Our Community Survey
Please take 5 to 10 minutes to share your thoughtful responses to the three questions we posed at our NVRD event by clicking the link below. After one week, we’ll combine the survey results with the insights gathered during the Open House and share the findings with you in the next edition of The Culturist newsletter.
